Photos of Sangita

Posted by: Admin In: School Updates

Dana Kornberg has just sent me some photos of Sangita from when she was at Buddha’s Smile School in 2005. Here are some more pictures you might be able to use. They are from the days when all the teachers were teasing Sangita about getting married soon… my god… I have always loved the one [...]

Write about your visit

Posted by: Admin In: School Updates

One of the ways you can help Buddha’s Smile School is to write about your visit — telling people about your experiences, impressions and thoughts. It doesn’t have to be mushie, or eloquent — you don’t even have to be able to spell or write English very well — we’ll take care of that.

New Photos: January 2007

Posted by: Admin In: School Updates

Every Saturday afternoon Rajan and her teachers go out to the villages and meet with the parents. I have included some photos from one of those trips and of the tent-like dwellings most of them live in. I also included a happy-snap photo of Rajan, Sukhdev, Daisy and Rosy for those who haven’t seen them [...]

Sangita’s Story — More Comment

Posted by: Karen In: School Updates

There are no words to respond to the tragic news of the death of Sangita. And John’s writing makes so clear how horrible her final days were. I can only shake my head and feel deep pain for Sangita, and for her baby who will never know his mother! Rajan this is just such very [...]

Sangita’s Story

Posted by: Admin In: School Updates

I would like to tell you about Sangita — a young, bright and attractive Indian woman with a 4 month old child. Sangita was a teacher at Buddha’s Smile School until she left to get married. Yesterday I visited her in a public hospital in Varanasi. She had been burnt all down her front — [...]

Sarnath: Living Buddhism

Posted by: Mattia In: School Updates

The location of Buddha’s Smile School is one of the holiest sites for Buddhists anywhere. For the many archaeological attractions and rich history of the place, there are websites and books. Here I intend to say something about a very contemporary, and perhaps neglected, wealth of Sarnath: its international Buddhist community. In fact, there are [...]

Teaching Children How to Dream

(English and Hindi with English subtitles)

About BSS from Alfredo and Anel

(Spanish with English subtitles)

A letter to his children

"These are the things I want for you - to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world. And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That's why I've taken our family on this great adventure."
